Environmental Sensing

We deliver emerging technologies to help scientists and regulators characterize our world, and others.

Absorption Spectroscopy

Tunable Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TLAS) utilizes unique spectral features to identify and quantify gasses. At OKSI, we develop systems operating in the “molecular fingerprint” region with high sensitivity and specificity. The systems utilize robust, small size, weight, and power components enabling compact sensors for a wide-range of applications.

GREENHOUSE GASES / ISOTOPE ANALYSIS

Field sensors are needed to better understand  climate change. We develop trace gas sensors and isotope analyzers that unambiguously identify, quantify, and attribute the source of greenhouse gasses, e.g., CO2, CH4, N2O.

TRACE GAS DETECTION

Our laser absorption spectroscopy technique operations in the Mid-IR wavelength region and collects data with more sensitivity and specificity than competing laser systems.

Earth Monitoring

We develop sensors and techniques for characterizing Earth systems and processes. We have unique tools and capabilities that can take on challenging measurements within land, sea and air environments. We lean on our 30 years of experience producing, operations and utilizing state-of-the-art technology – which includes emission, absorption and hyperpectral imaging sytems.

SUBMERSIBLE & AIRBORNE OCEAN MONITORING

Our calibrated ocean water-leaving spectral-radiance instruments, include simultaneous upwelling and downwelling radiance at multiple depths and from airborne platforms.  These measurements characterize the distribution of organic and inorganic constituents and pollutants in the water support of industrial fishery, pollution monitoring, and recreational activities.

IN SITU METHANE SENSOR

Our Capillary Absorption Spectrometer (CAS) systems have been utilized in field studies, including a version for real-time underwater measurements of methane concentration and isotope ratio depths down to 3000m. These sensors provide critical data for scientific studies of carbon cycling, as well as energy exploration.

HYPERSPECTRAL & MULTISPECTRAL IMAGING

Our systems cover wavelength ranges from UVis, SWIR, up to MWIR and LWIR. Our sensors cover a wide range of configurations and performance characteristics.

PRECISION FARMING

As a pioneer of aerial hyperspectral imaging for crop health monitoring, and site-specific farm management, we deliver immediate after-flight, georegistered maps for crop stress, soil remediation needs, and lack of nitrogen or irrigation issues, along with yield prediction over the growth season.

Space Exploration

Understanding the origins of our universe and beyond is at the forefront of many minds. Our experience in space-based mission planning and science gives us a unique perspective on space exploration. Our ConOps and astrophysics knowledge combined with our proprietary low SWaP sensors allow us to take targeted measurements to help answer many unknowns about planets and other celestial bodies.

Planetary Isotope Sensors

Isotope-ratio analysis is a powerful tool to elucidate planetary systems. Isotopic data can provide information on potential sources of water in the solar system, as well as evidence for life beyond Earth. We have developed a Capillary Absorption Spectrometer (CAS) that analyzes trace-gas and isotopes.

DUST MITIGATION TECHNIQUES

With all the lunar missions, it’s become clear that dust on celestial bodies without thick atmospheres will have sharp dust grains. Futhermore, the dust can be charged, causing static cling, which then erodes our Earth-based equipment and fabrics. With our extensive knowledge, we have novel techniques to mitigate these issues.

MISSION CONOPS

Our long history of ground-based, space-based, and planetary-based mission designs, helps ensure mission success from the scientific and engineering perspectives.
