- Abstract: (U) THIS PAPER ADDRESSES THE ALLEVIATION OF STORAGE AND BENDWIDTH PROBLEMS WITH REAL TIME COMPRESSION, INCREASING THE STRATEGIC AND COMMERCIAL SIGNIFICANCE OF HYPERSPECTRAL SENSORS. THE PAPER PRESENTS A REAL TIME, MULTIPROCESS, COMMERCIAL OFF-THE-SHELF (COTS) IMPLEMENTATION OF A HYPERSPECTRAL DATA COMPRESSION ALGORITHM USING THE PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS TRANSFORMATION (PCT) TECHNIQUE AS A REFERENCE METHOD. THE PCT ALGORITHM HAS BEEN OPTIMIZED FOR EXECUTION ON THE SHARC DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSOR. THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MATCH SENSOR DATA RATES OF UP TO 100 MBITS/S, AND CAN BE SCALED UP TO ACCOMODATE HIGHER DATA RATES. THE PAPER DISCUSSES MULTIPROCESSOR DESIGN RELATED ISSUES. DATA RECONSTRUCTION FIDELITY IS DISCUSSED USING DIFFERENT FIGURES OF MERIT.
